Owning a car is one thing we all wish for, we use different methods to save up, or work as hard as possible to get a car, and it is always a beautiful moment. As much as we all wish to own a car, there are different reasons why we would want to own a car, and this reason differs from person to person.
Speaking of owning a car for a specific purpose, we are going to be speaking about owning a truck, and not just any truck but the Ford f-series truck. We will first delve into the history of ford to understand how they rose to the limelight, how they survived two world wars and survived through depression.
All About Ford
With a long history of car production, Ford has risen to become one of the most successful car manufacturers, producing more than half of the trucks used in America. They are also noted for being the best choice of the truck in America because of their light and medium weight designs.
History of Ford Company
The history of ford dates back to as long as 1896, where Henry Ford built his first car called the quadricycle. He initially started his car company under the name Detroit Automobile Company, in 1899 but two years later, he changed the name to Henry Ford Company. After a year, 1902, Ford left the company and left behind about $900 and gave his initial investors the right to own the name.
Henry had a friend, Alexander Malcomson, who he turned to at that time to help provide funds for new car business. Hence the creation of the name, Ford and Malcomson. Things went well until they could no longer pay the manufacturing company where they assemble the parts they import.
Malcomson had to go to his uncle, John Gray, who headed the German-American Savings Bank. It was at that point that they got the best advice. He advised them to get more investors to help make the business come to a steady production of cars.
With this golden advice, 12 investors were brought into the business in 1903. From that point, things took a different turn, and the business started blooming.
A slight hiccup faced at the initial start of the business was when they, Ford and Malcomson, had a rift about where how the company would be in the next few years. After much back and forth argument, Malcomson took sides with Ford, and the rest of the investors froze Malcomson and his rights in the company, then Malcomson had to sell his shares to Ford.
Shortly after, Malcomson died, and Ford took up the position of President of Ford and Malcomson.
The first Ford car was made in 1903, and they initially started naming their cars chronologically according to the alphabets, the first model was called the Ford Model A. they were very successful that they could not be bound by their country. They quickly gained recognition internationally in Canada in 1904.
Expansion activities were going on, but came to full development in 1911; they went beyond Canada to other countries like France, Ireland and England in 1917. Shortly after, they expanded Argentina, Germany, and Argentina. In the year 1925, they had factories in Australia, Japan and South Africa.
Variety of Ford F-Series Trucks
Ford was notable for being one of the best at producing trucks, and their extensive collection of trucks prove it. There have been many models, and designs that have seen different centuries and have also improved a great deal both in design and functionality. Here are lists, or better yet, the generations of the Ford F-Series trucks from the very first generation to the thirteenth generation.
The first generation of F-Series
The first generation of F-Series trucks where produced between the years 1948 to 1952. They were also known as the Ford Bonus-Built, but production originally started in 1948. They were made into about eight varieties of weight used for cab over engine, School bus, Pickup, Conventional truck, Panel truck and the likes.
The second generation of F-Series
The second generation was made with more features such as improved dimensions, better chassis, and enhanced engines. Another noticeable thing was that the naming convention also changed, from a single number to three numbers. The first, second-generation model was made in 1953, and it lasted till 1956.
The third generation of F-Series
The production of the third generation stated from 1957 through 1960. There were not only better but also had a more modern design compared to the two other generations. These models were made of front fenders and a rather stylistic bed with lines that ran through till the back of the car.
The fourth generation of F-Series
This generation of ford took an entirely new design of pickup trucks. They started producing the fourth generation between 1961 and 1966. They featured a lower and longer body design, with improved engines and increased dimensions. They also came with a gearbox with more than one gear for you to choose from.
The fifth generation of F-Series
The fifth generation was made between the years 1967 to 1972. These designs were made with features like increased dimensions, more options for the engine, more greenhouse glasses were used, and an added feature which was the plusher trim was also introduced. At this time, suspension compression components were made interchangeable. Many models were made, but the most remarkable was the Heavy Duty Special.
The sixth generation of F-Series
Sixth generation cars were made between the years 1973 to 1979. They were made similarly as the fifth generation. They have more modern designs and feature double wall bed structure, front disc brakes, improved cabin dimensions, and galvanised steel.
The seventh generation of F-Series
These were made between 1980 to 1986. This was also the beginning of the medium-duty designs. They feature an entirely new chassis; the external body was made to have a more refined style and beauty. They were also known to be the trucks that helped save a lot on fuel consumption, and they had an overall improvement on aerodynamics. They also added a three-speed manual gearbox that adjusted using a steering column lever. They also had power door locks, mirrors and windows.
The eighth generation of F-Series
There weren’t many changes made to the eighth generation; the body style from the seventh generation was maintained. The front clip, however, was changed which gave it better aerodynamics. The interior design was remade, and the transmission featured a four or five-speed manual gearbox. They also made a lot of Heavy duty designs. The models were made between 1987 and 1991.
The ninth generation of F-Series
Production of the models started from 1992 to 1997. They experienced a significant upgrade, from bodywork to front fender designs. The name of some of the designs was the Explorer and the Ranger. The interior design was a total masterpiece also. It was made in a way to appeal to the younger generation. They also made some limited edition of the Powerstroke Diesel truck which a lot of people loved. Some came with dual fuel tanks; an example was the 1993 Ford F-150.
The tenth generation of F-Series
Made between 1997 to 2004. The tenth generation also went through a major upgrade. They were made into more beautiful trucks that could be used for personal and commercial purposes. At this time, Ford experienced a major increase in revenue and more customers. They made both heavy and light duty models of this truck between those years.
The eleventh generation of F-Series
They were made between the years 2004 -2008. Trust me; this was when all things started looking good for the Ford trucks. They made a 3-valve model; it also had a sharper-edged designed, sleeker and beautiful designs that appealed to the eyes. Towards the end of 2007, the eleventh generation was given a new grille and headlamp design to separate them from their predecessor while retaining the same type of cabin and bed.
Twelfth generation of F-Series
The twelfth generation was made between the years 2009 -2014. They also had a large grille and headlamp that made them entirely different from their previous predecessors. They had only two doors in place of the regular four doors. A major improvement, and design improvement. Added to their feature is an automatic transmission, no manual transmission was allowed.
Thirteenth generation of F-Series
These are the models that are all-encompassing from 2005 to present. They still followed the same two-door designs and have gotten sleeker than before. They also focused a great deal on economising fuel with this model. The bodywork was also reworked, and the weight was massively reduced.
The new material used for all the designs were aluminium in place of steel. The aluminium used were made to last for a very long time. Some of the models were made with special sensors to help control accidents.
In the newer 2018 models, extra features such as the Pre Collison Assist with Pedestrian Detection. This feature helps to reduce accidents a great deal. They are made for everyone and can be afforded.
