SUMMIT COUNTY — As feared, dry and windy conditions have contributed to several small new wildfires around Colorado, including a blaze near Deckers that’s reported to be heading toward the area burned in the 2002 Hayman Fire.
Another fire is burning in Routt County, near Steamboat, in what has been one of the driest areas in the state this winter. Two fires have been reported in Gunnison County. There’s very little information from official sources as to the size of the fires, but information is starting to stream via Twitter at #CoFire and #DeckersFire.
One of the fires in Gunnison County Fire is reportedly at 10 acres in the Little Blue Canyon area, while the other, in the Ohio Creek drainage, is about 30 percent contained, according to information coming out of the area.
Some Denver news sources are reporting that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to evacuate some homes near the Deckers Fire.
The Rocky Mountain fire coordination Center is also a good source for fire information. You can follow them at @RMACCFireinfo.
