Beryl upgraded to tropical storm with 60 mph winds

Landfall expected in northeastern Florida or southeastern Georgia

Tropical Storm Beryl is churning up the waters of the southwestern Atlantic and expected to make landfall early Monday.

SUMMIT COUNTY — Tropical Storm Beryl, which has been meandering off the coast of the southeastern U.S. the last few days, has reached tropical storm strength, with sustained winds of 60 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the area between the Volusia/Brevard county line in Florida to Edisto Beach, South Carolina, where tropical storm-force winds are expected up to 90 miles from the center of the storm. (more…)
