Coroner releases details of Jan. 20 accident at Summit County resort

SUMMIT COUNTY — The Summit County coroner Saturday released details of a Jan. 20 skier death at Copper Mountain Ski Area.
According to a press release from the coroner, Donald Hinckley, 51, of Austin, Texas, was skiing slowly on the Far East trail when witnesses reported that he collapsed, appearing to hit his head on a snow-covered stump.
According to the coroner, the collision resulted in damage to the Hinckley’s helmet. Hinckley immediately went into cardiac arrest and was evacuated from the mountain and flown to St. Anthony’s inLakewood, where he succumbed to his injuries at 11:59 p.m. According to the coroner, Hinckley died from a traumatic brain injury and fractured neck.
