Detectives seek help from public in identifying a “person of interest”

Breckenridge Police have released  composite sketches, based on witness descriptions, of a person of interest in an assault that occurred January 28 in the Tonopah parking lot on the east side of  La Cima Mall  in Breckenridge, where two individuals were stabbed.

This individual was in the area of La Cima Mall/ Tonopah Parking lot at approximately 10:30 p.m.  A green hooded sweatshirt with an Alma logo on the upper left side was located at the scene; it is believed this person may have been wearing this sweatshirt.  A small dark colored sedan may be associated with this individual.

Breckenridge PD officers were dispatched to the scene about 10;30 p.m. on January 28, but found no unusual activity; however,  about one hour later, a 23-year-old male arrived at St. Anthony’s with a stab wound, where he was treated by staff then transferred to a hospital in Denver.

Breckenridge: Police to crack down on ‘tourist harrassment’

Law enforcement officers will patrol the slopes of Breckenridge April 1 to discourage harrassment of tourists.

‘Zero tolerance’ on April 1 for illegal and disrespectful behavior

SUMMIT COUNTY — The Breckenridge Police Department says it will help the ski resort crack down on April 1 “Gaper Day” shenanigans, an occasion when some people have made fun of visiting tourists.

While the practice has sometimes been dismissed as harmless late-season fun, the harassment has sometimes turned mean-spirited, prompting concern among tourism officials.

“April 1 has been a busy day for us the past four to six years,” said Breckenridge Police Department spokesperson Kim Green. “The ski area has been asking for our involvement.”

In the past few years, Green said police officers have issued citations for violations of open container laws, as well as cannabis infractions. Asked about harassment of tourists, Green cited incidents of locals being rude and verbally abusive to visitors, for example skiing too close and spraying them with snow. (more…)

Breckenridge: Teens arrested for packing heat

Breckenridge police officers arrest two teens armed with handguns and knives.

New Mexico juveniles said the felt they needed protection

SUMMIT COUNTY — Police officers in Breckenridge Colorado last week arrested two 17-year-old males from New Mexico for illegal possession of a handgun and illegally carrying a concealed weapon after they showed a .40 caliber semi-automatic Smith & Wesson to an off-duty Arvada policeman. The handgun was loaded with 13 hollow-point bullets in the magazine.

According to the off-duty cop, he noticed the weapon when one of the juveniles raised his jacket, revealing the handle of the gun. When he asked if he could see the gun, the juvenile handed it to the police officer, who called 911 and waited with the two juveniles until Breckenridge police officers arrived at the scene. (more…)

Breckenridge burglary suspect arrested in Littleton

SUMMIT COUNTY — Breckenridge police this week arrested a suspect in a series of burglaries at One Ski Hill place after the man was filmed by surveillance equipment that was installed by the company he worked for.

James Harry Maenner, 40, of Littleton, was employed by Media Logix, a company hired to install security cameras and audio/media sound systems at One Ski Hill Place. (more…)
