Morning photo: Black and white

Sometimes color is a distraction …

Tiny frozen crystals seem to rest weightlessly on a sprig of lodgepole pine.

SUMMIT COUNTY — Post-processing a digital file to create a black and white image seems absurdly easy when I think back to all the hours I spent in a darkroom, soaking rolls of film in developer, using stop baths and fixer, then drying negatives and finally, trying to find the perfect grade of paper, the and the right exposure on the enlarger. So when I started to put together this collection of black and white images a few days ago, I thought, “piece of cake.” Turns out, there’s still a lot of tweaking involved  to get it right.  Sometimes, dropping the color means being able to focus more on shape, texture and detail.
