Republicans hold an edge in voter registration in the new district

SUMMIT COUNTY — Breckenridge Democrat Emily Tracy has a tough battle ahead in her bid to represent the newly shaped Colorado Senate District 8, where Republicans hold an edge in voter registration.
Tracy said the outcome could depend on how the national presidential race goes. A high turnout of motivated Democrats in the population centers of the district would help her cause.
The new district is comprised of Summit, Garfield, Routt, Grand, Jackson, Rio Blanco and Moffat counties. Tracy will face either incumbent Sen. Jean White, who represents a big chunk of the new district in its existing configuration, or Randy Baumgardner, a self-described conservative Republican who currently represents House District 57. White and Baumgardner will contest a Republican primary this summer. (more…)
