SUMMIT COUNTY — Snow has been piling up in Breckenridge, with 228 inches so far this season, and this year’s Ullr Parade paid homage to the Norse God of Snow with more floats than ever before. Here are the winners.
First Place – The Train of Debauchery to Ullr Mountain: Breck Velo, Rob Phipps Motor Sports, “Racer’s Edge” Ski tuning, with six-plus vehicles, a ski jump, the Peak 13 Chair and more.
Second Place – Ullr Kingdom: Breckenridge: Grand Vacations and Ullr Schnapps. The defending champions, Grand Lodge on Peak 7, return with Ullr’s Kingdom, Y’dalir (yew-dales). When not out playing in the snow, catch a glimpse of life Ullr Style at Yew-dales.
Third Place – Feelin’ Groovy: Breckenridge Nordic Center: This float represents “Feelin Groovy & Crazy” as ULLR gets in the groove at the Breckenridge Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Adventure Center. ULLR has friends from all over the world, see his ‘60s friends from London, England.
“The judges were blown away by the creativity,” said event director Sally Croker. “Don’t be surprised to see new awards next year. Everyone really enjoyed the efforts to make this the biggest Ullr parade ever.”
Other parade highlights included the traditional but unofficial Ullr gold underwear streakers; the highest pedicab operation in the world; Shake Weight, “Get Hard in just 6 minutes per day;” and plenty of creative Ullr characters.
