Morning photo: Marvelous May

Month of contrasts …

FRISCO — May has always been my favorite month in the mountains. Snow lingers on the highest peaks, and sometimes even falls in the valleys, but spring can’t be stopped. Lilacs bloom, the grass greens and aspens bud out. Meanwhile, mountain streams start to swell with runoff and after a long winter, temps often can, and do, soar into the 70s on sunny afternoons. Ski, cycle, golf, fish … There’s no better time than late spring in the Colorado Rockies. One of these images will grace the May page of the 2014 Summit Voice calendar, and if you like our daily snapshots, visit our online gallery at Fine Art America for more Summit County landscape and nature images.

It's not unusual to get May snow in Summit County, and the aspen trees are well able for it.

Looks kind of wintry for May, but there it is!
