Dazzling Summit sunset
FRISCO — We rolled back into Summit just before 8 p.m. last night after a day trip to the Front Range, with sprinkles falling all the way down the grade from the tunnel. It looked totally clear to the west as we approached Silverthorne, but just a few minutes later a giant thundercloud formed, like an apparition, directly overhead. Dodging raindrops, I zoomed over to the first available turnout along Dam Road, sensing that it would be a good sunset. I started out focusing on the sky above Guyot and Baldy, hoping for lightning. After the first few flashes, the electrical activity died down, but it was a stunning sunset nonetheless.
