Near head-on collision closes highway temporarily
By Bob Berwyn
FRISCO — A Summit Stage bus driver suffered only minor injuries in an early morning collision with a pickup truck near Summit High School, according to Summit Stage director John Jones. One passenger on the bus was also unharmed, he said.
The accident shut down the highway for about an hour as law enforcement officers investigated the crash. Jones said the bus was headed northbound on the highway when the southbound pickup truck veered partly off the road, then over-corrected and crashed into the bus.
Jones said it could have been a direct head-on collision but for the “evasive action” taken by the bus driver, who sustained some cuts from the shattered windshield, as well as scratches to his cornea. The driver of the pickup truck was also treated for minor injuries and released.
Jones estimated the damage to the Summit Stage bus at about $100,000.
