Snow, clouds and sun

Peak One from Tenderfoot, just after sunrise. Click this one a couple of times to see it full-size. It’s worth it.

SUMMIT COUNTY — Looking out the kitchen window at about 6:30 a.m., it was hard to tell if it was going to be worth getting bundled up for an early photo session. The clouds still looked pretty thick, especially to the east. But I was up, the coffee was done and the dogs were looking at me expectantly, so … off we went. After a few quick initial shots near Heaton Bay, we headed over toward Dillon and up the Tenderfoot Trail. When the sun finally did break through a little bit, it was pure magic.

This shot of Peak One was taken about an hour before the lead picture in this post from the Heaton Bay area is soft pre-dawn light, warmed with an Instagram filter.

It’s hard for me to go for a walk on the Tenderfoot trail without going to visit this tree, which I consider to be a friend with a very distinctive personality.
And the evening was also quite nice …
