Severe weather potential is forecast for Wednesday evening and Thursday.

Localized flash flooding and damaging hail possible

SUMMIT COUNTY — Colorado’s severe weather season is starting with a slew of warnings for the Front Range, from Colorado Springs all the way north into southern Wyoming — including a tornado warning for east-central Douglas County and west-central Elbert County. The warning is in effect through 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.

A tornado watch is in effect through 9 p.m. across a much wider swath of the plains, covering Elbert, Adams, Denver, Morgan, Arapahoe, Douglas Washington, Broomfield, Logan and Weld counties.

Severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings are also in effect for parts of the Front Range, in a classic clash of dry continental air with a moist flow streaming up from the Gulf of Mexico.

Heavy rain and hail are reported in the area, and The Weather Channel reported that a tornado has been spotted in the warning area.

The potential for severe weather continues Thursday.
