Morning photo: Ice hunting

Out and about

Under the log ...

SUMMIT COUNTY — When I started bushwhacking up along Meadow Creek Saturday, I wasn’t sure what I would find, but I wasn’t expecting icicles. Yet in the deeper, shadier sections of the gorge, there they were, looking wintry. Technically, they’re probably not really icicles, so I’ve decided to call them splashcicles, since they form when water from the creek splashes up and coats nearby branches or logs, only to drip down again.

Evergreen branches coated with ice.

Spring splashcicles along Meadow Creek.

Curtain of ice.

Fading light.

Subtle sunrise.

The sun breaks through.

Whitecaps

Stormy skies.

  1. You see more on a casual morning walk than most of us see when we visit an exotic country. I know you’ve traveled far and wide, too, but thanks for sharing the beauty right under your feet every day of the year.
