Morning photo: Euro-mania

Dreamy photo paintings …

Bikes are everywhere in Amsterdam, and while most of them are well-used, a few are set aside as artsy relics, like the flower-decked version on one of the canal bridges.

SUMMIT COUNTY — OK, I’ll admit, I’m a Europhile, but I’ll blame it on my bi-cultural upbringing and leave it at that. Despite my affection for the “Old Country,” I fell in love with the American West when I first traveled here some 30 years ago and never left. But I still enjoy revisiting old haunts like Amsterdam every now and then, as well as discovering new locales. And obviously, I had some fun post-processing a few of these images. I usually post more images than this in the daily photo essay, but there’s so much to look at in each one of this pictures, I thought I’d leave at this.

In this sepia rendering, the heart of downtown Luxembourg has an old-time feel.

This traditional Venice scene was shot on a cloudy day and nothing popped in the original version so I went all out with comic book treatment.

Tourists taking pictures of tourists taking pictures ... but I couldn't resist the scene, from the somewhat polka-dotted dress that contrasts will all the other colors, to the splotch of green on the boat in the foreground. Click on it twice to see it full size for all the detail.

In amongst a warren of gray structures, one resident of Brignoles, France, decided to brighten up the neighborhood -- but don't sit in the chair!

A lot going on in this classic multilevel Naples street scene. Check out the pair of shoes on the stairs at street level. I only lightened up the shadows a wee bit in this shot to try and maintain the true colors of the city.

Mopeds and a toy shop in Corfu.

A stylized image of the old town square in Frankfurt, Germany.

Striving for an old-time Romantic-era painterly light in this image.

  1. The second photo, of the heart of downtown Luxembourg, the street[s] look as though they are flooded. Or maybe it’s just my old tired eyes again.

  2. Thanks for the great images Bob.
