SUMMIT COUNTY — Libertarian students at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs are putting a unique spin on the traditional Valentine’s Day festivities by working to expose the dysfunctional lovefest between corporations and political institutions.
The Young Americans for Liberty group at the university is hosting a National Expose Cronyism Day on the second floor of the University Center by the library from 9am-4:30pm. The Young Americans For Liberty will be handing out candy grams, stickers and information sheets to students and discussing the pressing issue of crony capitalism.
“Participating in National Expose Cronyism Day with more than 250 student groups across the U.S. is so empowering. This event is a great way for students to come together and fight for free market capitalism.” said Heather Tix, of the Young Americans for Liberty.
The group in Colorado Springs is one of 250 groups across the country participating in this event.
Leaders of the student group say they’re disgusted with the recent bailouts of banks and corporations in the U.S. The initiative hopes to encourage youth activists to independently take action to fight cronyism in the pursuit of economic freedom.
Crony capitalism is a form of socialism mis-characterized as capitalism and relies on cozy relationships between business executives and government officials; this coziness may take the form of favoritism in the distribution of government grants, tax breaks, subsidies, and/or legal permitting. The Young Americans for Liberty find it imperative to bring light to this issue on the UCCS campus.

Goodness Bob, aren’t you afraid that someone will brand you or the blog as a political tool of one discipline or another? I mean, talk of being controversial!
Yes, it’s very strange. College age students are supposed to be Democrats…oops, Progressives. I wonder what happened?
Don’t mean to sound like Snidely Whiplash here, but isn’t the title about “Libertarian students”? Last time I looked, there was a distinct difference between “Democrats/Progressives”. Perhaps Mr Z never attended “College”, therefore his not knowing the difference!
