SUMMIT COUNTY — Some of this week’s grocery deals make perfect Secret Santa gifts that everyone will want to trade for including bags of Starbucks coffee at Safeway, on sale for $6.88 on Thursday only, as well as a 20-ounce bag of pistachios at $5 (Friday only).
You can also save at the register this weekend (Dec. 16 to Dec. 18) with the $10 off coupon on purchases of $75 or more. Remember to split your order into two parts and you can use the coupon right away.
Also at Safeway, stock your pantry with Barilla pasta sauces at $2 each and jasmine rice at $5.99 for a five-pound bag. Kuner’s canned vegetables are $.89 each. Remember these if you’re asked to bring food bank items to a social function.
At City Market you’ll find a 10 pound bag of grapefruit for $3.99. Fresh cranberries are $1.99 for 12-ounce package. Whole pineapples, perfect for Thai pineapple fried rice, are $2.99 each. All three are great sources of Vitamin C to help fend off colds. Shelled walnuts are $4.99 per bag, Bartlett pears are $.99 per pound, and organic baby spinach is $2.99 for a 5 ounce package. Together these three items all add up to a spectacular salad.
In the meat department boneless pork tenderloin, fantastic on the grill, is $3.99 per pound. Boneless skinless chicken breasts are $2.79 per pound. And New York strip steaks are $7.99 per pound. You’ll also find prime rib for only $5.99 per pound.
So for dinner tonight, chef’s pick is chicken breast prepared piccata style along with a spinach salad. Round out the meal with brie cheese ($3.99 at City Market) topped with fresh raspberries.
