Mid-winter in the high country

DIVIDE: A mid-winter view from Frisco across Dillon Reservoir toward Grays and Torreys, two 14,000-foot peaks along the Continental Divide. A summit light at Arapahoe Basin is visible in the center of the image. Click for the full-size version.
SUMMIT COUNTY — It’s time once again for Summit Voice readers to help us pick the monthly images for the 2012 calendar. Last week, we ran a series of January images and this week, it’s time to take a look back at February, when snow lies deep on the land. Though still deep in the heart of winter, February sometimes offers the tiniest glimpse of spring as the days lengthen. Please choose your favorite picture by voting in the poll at the bottom of the story. If you leave comment telling us why it’s your favorite, you might win a free Summit Voice 2012 calendar. You can find more of our photography on sale at our RedBubble gallery, and also at Imagekind.

FULL MOON: A post-processed version of moonrise over Grizzly Peak, near the headwaters of the Snake River Basin.

ROSE: After being inundated with snow all winter, I took a break to photograph a still life of rose in the kitchen.

GORE RANGE: Long evening shadows fall across a meadow on Swan Mountain as the sun sets behind the Gore Range.
