Fireworks will light up the sky over Breckenridge, weather permitting.

BRECKENRIDGE — Weather permitting, this year’s fireworks will be set off from the roof of the Welcome Center for increased visibility in Breckenridge’s downtown. To accommodate this improvement, Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the full day on Monday from Ski Hill Road to Adams Avenue. The fireworks will be most visible from the Riverwalk Center lawn, the Blue River Plaza, and the intersection of Main and Washington Streets.

Other 4th of July festivities in Breckenridge include the morning parade, a free afternoon concert by Rusted Root at Riverwalk Center, and the July Art Festival. Check out this June 22 story in the Summit Voice for more details about all the events taking place in Breckenridge over the Independence Day weekend.

Reserve a spot at the Fourth of July Garden Party at the Barney Ford Museum for mimosas, breakfast, and a great view of the parade.

The fireworks will be preceded by a fire dancing show by Cosmic Fire Dance from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Main Street by the Welcome Center, and the National Repertory Orchestra patriotic concert will be simulcast in the Blue River Plaza at the same time.

  1. Worst firework show ever. Poor show Breckenridge

    • Worst fireworks ever. Will make us reconsider our future 4th of July plans. We have come here for the past 8 years

  2. Sadly, I have to agree with you. I was actually pretty shocked. I’ve been to Breckenridge’s fireworks for years and they’ve always been great, don’t know what happened this year.

  3. I was told that Breckenridge Ski Resort didnt want to give up their parking by the gondola (where they usually let off the fireworks), so they could allow for easier parking for guests to access the fun park. Bad idea…

    • If that’s true, it was a super-bad idea. All those guests at the fun park were in town with their kids and probably won’t come back to Breckenridge next year, if they have to try to drive to Frisco and figure out where to park just to see fireworks.

  4. After years of coming to Breck to watch a fantastic fireworks show, I guess it’s time to check out another display. Frisco’s looked like it might be good while they were setting it up.

  5. I asked the parking lot question of Breck ski area on Facebook and they say “no that isn’t the case, town officials selected the new location of the welcome center this year after examining several different options.”

  6. Worst fireworks display ever. Many guests left in disgust. Was the real show supposed to be the “firedancers”? The fireworks kids were lighting in the nearby alley were more interesting than the one’s put on by the town. Breck should be embarrassed.

  7. Whoever organized last night’s fireworks display should be fired. No one, including my family, will come to Breck for another fireworks show. Was it worth saving some money when this will kill tourism next year?

This is the only display I’ve ever been to where the fireworks we booed. People left before it was over. I can’t believe people traveled to see that.

    Breckenridge should be embarrassed.

  8. Definitley the worst fire works display in 16 years. What a dud. Hope we do not lose guests over it….

  9. i’m the only person who liked the fireworks, apparently.

    • Naah, there were a few more – you can see the positive comments on Carl’s FB page. I guess Summit Voice was the outlet for the unhappy people on this one. Oh well …

  10. My first time to Breckenridge for the 4th. My family and I were very disappointed.

  11. From the Town of Breckenridge Facebook page:

“Town Council approves (4 – 3) to move July 4th fireworks back to ‘Traditional’ and to the gondola parking lot. Thanks to everyone for comments – we heard you.”

The fireworks were awesome in the gondola parking lot in previous years. I now understand the reason for the change, but I have to admit I too like the traditional fireworks.
