Unique interactive art show benefits land preservation, features painting demos, wildflower walks, sidewalk chalk art for kids and a gala art show
By Summit Voice
SUMMIT COUNTY — Sixteen artists from around the country will gather in Summit County July 7 to July 10 to celebrate the high country wildflower season with art in an event that benefits the land conservation efforts of the Continental Divide Land Trust.
The Art & Wildflower Celebration is aimed at promoting greater awareness and understanding of the importance of preserving Colorado’s natural lands — because wildflowers need wild lands.
The public can watch the artists paint on guided wildflower hikes with alpine wildflower authorities or participate in guided mountain bike rides. Along with mountain biking and hiking, kids can participate in art workshops and sidewalk wildflower chalk painting while parents participate in photography workshops, a paint-along with a professional plein air artist or wildflower gardening classes with a local landscaping firm.
The paintings will be on display the afternoon they are painted in a wet paint show at the Fuqua Livery Stable in the Breckenridge Arts District, 110 East Washington Avenue, and available for purchase at the Gala Art Show and Sale, Saturday, July 9, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Edwin Carter Museum, 111 S. Ridge Street. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the land conservation programs of Continental Divide Land Trust, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting mountain landscapes.
Fuqua Livery Stable, 110 East Washington Avenue in Breckenridge, will be the information center for the event. Some activities will be free and others will involve a nominal donation to CDLT. Event details are online at www.cdlt.org. You can also stay up to date with with the CDLT’s Facebook Page.
About Continental Divide Land Trust: Art & Wildflower Celebration is an annual benefit for the Continental Divide Land Trust (CDLT), a not-for-profit land conservancy that works to protect natural lands in and around Summit County, Colorado, to preserve mountain landscapes for current and future generations. Good luck on your venture. A month ago I began a photography blog to portray and thereby promote native plants in central Texas:

We don’t have your kind of scenery here, so I’ve focused primarily on the individual species.
