Immersive exhibit at the Riverwalk Center July 1

BRECKENRIDGE — It’s been four years since Shannon Galpin first exhibited at the Riverwalk Center. This week, she returns with an exhibit that is now touring nationally as a fundraiser for Mountain2Mountain’s work in Afghanistan with women and children.

Four years ago, Mountain2Mountain was born in Breckenridge, as an organization fighting for the rights and future of women and girls in conflict zones – where women’s rights are the most often trampled. In that initial fundraiser, the Breckenridge community came together to raise over $100,000 in a historic night at the Riverwalk Center, which led to the construction and support of two girls schools in Pakistan. Since then, Mountain2Mountain has focused its own efforts in Afghanistan; working in the women’s prisons, creating education and health care access in rural communities, and working with urban youth to find their voice through art and music.

July 1, an event that began at the Denver Art Museum will immerse Breckenridge visitors in an area of the world most will never see. The life-size multimedia exhibition re-creates the city streets of Kabul, the roads of rural Afghanistan, and the people that live there.
