Colorado: Duckett Fire now at 1,000 acres

Fire behavior described as ‘extreme’

The Duckett Fire is burning in the Pike-San Isabel National Forest.

SUMMIT COUNTY — The Duckett Fire, burning in south-central Colorado, has quickly grown to 1,000 acres, according to an Inciweb.org update issued Monday (June 13) morning. The fire is in Custer County, northwest of Westcliffe and west of Hwy 191, on the San Isabel National Forest.

The fire is burning in grasslands, brush, juniper and ponderosa pine forests with fire behavior characterized as “extreme.”

The U.S. Forest Service has responded to the latest Colorado wildfire with five engines and is working with local cooperators to suppress the fire.

Windy conditions have kept available air resources grounded.
