Travel in Denver just got easier thanks to a new mobile smart phone app from the visitor and convention bureau
By Summit Voice
SUMMIT COUNTY — Travelers in Denver, Colorado will be able to use their smart phones to find restaurants, events, hotels and shopping options thanks to a new mobile app launched by the city’s visitor and convention bureau.
The one-stop app also includes Facebook and Twitter connections, as well as articles about the city. All of the information is also included in a mobile-enabled website.
“Today’s visitor wants instant access to destination information on their smart phones, tablets and mobile browsers,” Justin Bresler, vice president of marketing and business development for VISIT DENVER, said in a press release. “We created these new tools so that we can stay on the cutting edge of this rapidly growing market, providing people with instant information about every aspect of things to see and do in Denver.”
In addition to dining, shopping and attraction listings, the new tools have maps that make navigating the city easier than ever. Bargain shoppers will find more than 50 discount offerings, including “Two-for-One” admission deals. Hundreds of event listings include art exhibits, festivals, sporting events and theater performances and can be searched by category or by date.
“Visitor can go to their smart phone, find a selection of restaurants, look for deals being offered, see what events are going on in town, and then pull up a map that shows them how to get there,” Bresler said. “These new tools make it easy to explore the city and effortlessly find exciting new things to see and do.”
The application is available for For iPhones and iPads at the VISIT DENVER iTunes page. For the Android app, visit the Android Marketplace on your Android device and search for “Denver.” For mobile website, go to http://www.visitdenver.com on any mobile web browser.
VISIT DENVER is also offering a unique service, the “Denver Deals” text message program. Using this program, visitors — and locals — can sign up to receive information about deals and discounts from dozens of businesses around the Mile High City.
By texting “Denver Deals” (or dozens of other “keyword” combinations) to the short code of 63638, users can get up to three discount offerings from area businesses. Users have the option to receive more deals if they want. The program is 100 percent opt-in, so users will never receive a text that they did not request. The program is free to use (although standard carrier rates apply) and is powered by Denver-based MeNetwork.
To access the deals:
• Text Denver Deals to 63638
• Go to www.visitdenver.com/mobile to learn more
“The way that people gather information is rapidly changing, and with these new tools, VISIT DENVER is able to offer up-to-the-minute deals, information, maps and listings in a way that was never possible before,” Bresler said. “We continue to print 525,000 annual visitor guides, operate three information centers and offer a comprehensive website. But now, we can also offer the same information to people on their smart phones and mobile browsers,” he said.

Deals are all from 2010. The app came out last year, and it’s a really cool idea but it’s not being updated. I would find it useful if they actually kept the content fresh.
