SUMMIT COUNTY — Despite the strict wording on the signs at the trail head, Sapphire Point is a place where young and old connect with nature by feeding birds and small mammals. Most of us know it’s not really the best thing for wildlife, but it’s hard to resist a fuzzy golden-mantled ground squirrel eating out of your hand. When I visited the area Sunday afternoon, I watched a couple of too-cool for everything pre-teens all of a sudden get all soft and mushy as they put down a few sunflower seeds for the critters.
