Local experts to explain Twitter, Facebook and more at Summit County Business Builders’ Toolbox, Aug. 24 & 25

SUMMIT COUNTY — Two experts will share their knowledge of social media to help local businesses connect with customers on the web, focusing on the buzz generated by Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other emerging social networks.

As one of the highlights of the free Aug. 24 and Aug. 25 Business Builder’s Toolbox, Judy LaPoint, of North Star Online Marketing, and Jeff Jeff McElhattan, of Imagine That Creative, will hold an online social media scavenger hunt.

“(It’s)  a fun exercise to demonstrates the value of various social networking methods and how they enable professionals to build solid business relationships,” McElhatten said.

“I’m very excited about the interest in social media marketing, yet so many people don’t understand what it is and are afraid to take the first step,” LaPoint said. “By the end of our workshop, people will understand more about it and feel comfortable getting started. Bottom line, in this day and age, if you aren’t online with more than just a website,  it’s likely you are losing business.”

The workshop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 24 and again for 12 p.m. on Aug. 25. Both are the Silverthorne Pavilion.

Jeff  McElhattan is co-owner of Imagine That Creative and works with small businesses to help them build an effective online presence. McElhattan specializes in web-based applications including database management systems and e-commerce. He holds a masters in internet marketing.

Judi LaPoint is the owner of North Star Online Marketing and consults with local business to help them make the most of their marketing dollars online and offline. She holds an MBA with an emphasis in marketing. She will be teaching a class, “Online Marketing for Offline Business” at CMC in October.

Business Builders’ Toolbox is an educational series presented by the Summit Independent Business Alliance and co-hosted by Krystal 93 and Imagine That Creative. Each of the quarterly seminars is just an hour long, delivering quality, tangible tips on how to better various aspects of business.

Box lunches can be pre-ordered at Deli on the Blue (next to the Silverthorne Pavilion in Locals Liquors, or call ahead (970) 262-1200 for those who wish to bring in lunch or dinner during the event.

About the Summit Independent Business Alliance
SIBA strives to support and sustain quality of life within the Summit County, Colorado, region by preventing the displacement of local, independent businesses, ensuring ongoing opportunities for entrepreneurs, and advancing citizen engagement in directing the development of their mountain community. It accomplishes this by educating both residents and visitors about the role that locally owned, independent businesses have in the county. It also works on creating co-op buying/marketing initiatives, and relationship building with governments and media.
