Staff and volunteers give plenty of reason for hope with an outstanding record of placing dogs and cats with good homes

SUMMIT COUNTY — Friends of the Summit County Animal Shelter will gather at 10 a.m. June 29 to celebrate the donation of a bench for the shelter’s Garden of Hope.
The Garden was inspired by a litter of puppies that were born at the shelter 13 years ago, with each of the pups going to an extraordinary home, according to Gail Marshall. Twelve trees to be planted at the garden will represent that mother and her offspring, while the entire garden represents the hope given to the animals by the shelter’s dedicated staff and volunteers.
“Some of the puppies from that litter who are still with us will be there, as well as other dogs that have been adopted or are available for adoption,” Marshall said via e-mail. “It really is remarkable how many lives worldwide these dogs have touched. Each of those pups went to remarkable homes. The Summit County Animal Shelter really made sure of that,” she said.
Marshall said the group working on the garden still needs pavers or flagstone for the path to the bench, as well as wildflower seeds. The design was donated by O’Bryan Partnership Architects and the materials and labor was donated by The Gallegos Corporation, said Lori O’Bryan.
“It is quite the bench. Hopefully people find some comfort there for a loss, having to give up a dog or cat or those welcoming a new pet into their lives,” she said.
