Denver Water striving to re-open Dam Road ’24-7′

Denver Water officials and Summit County Sheriff John Minor say they're working on a plan to re-open the Dam Road permanently.

Officials say they want to balance security with public access using smart technology

SUMMIT COUNTY — Denver Water and local officials said they’re working together to try and re-open Dillon Dam Road during the night, Summit County Sheriff John Minor said Thursday evening during a transportation forum on Frisco.

“We’re trying to get it open 24-seven … that’s our mutual goal,” said Denver Water operations director Brian Good.

“This was a long process for us. We have a long history with Denver Water, not all of it good. But we said that’s enough, we have to start working together collectively,” Minor said, adding that the goal is to get the road open for passenger vehicles and light trucks throughout the night.

Both Minor and Good said that high-tech security measures could help balance the need for security with the desire for public access. Neither revealed any specifics for new measures, but said they may be rolling out some of their concepts in the next few months — if they can come up with the money to implement their plans.

Minor said there’s still some work to be done as far as coordinating the plans with elected officials in local towns and the county, but said there’s been a lot of progress recently.
